Menu options act as a directory for departments or individuals within your organization. Menu options can route calls to forwarding phone numbers, play recorded messages, send callers to voicemail, or repeat the call menu.
Creating a Menu Option
-
Log in to the Talkroute control panel and navigate to the Manager section.
-
Navigate to the Call Menu section and click Add New Menu Option.
-
Select an option number (the digit callers will press), enter a Description (e.g., "Sales Department"), and choose where to route incoming calls from the dropdown.
The routing destination you select determines what happens when a caller presses that option. See the sections below for each routing type.
Routing to Forwarding Phone Numbers
Select Go to Users & Numbers to forward calls to mobile phones, landlines, or other phone numbers.
Choose your forwarding type (Ring in Sequence or Ring All) and add the forwarding phone numbers. Click Save & Close when finished. For more details, see How to Add a Forwarding Phone Number.
Routing to an Audio File (Announcement)
Select Go to Other Destination to play an audio message when callers press this option—useful for hours of operation, directions, or other informational messages.
Select an audio file from the What audio file should we play? dropdown, then choose where to send callers after the message plays (disconnect, voicemail, or back to the menu). Click Save & Close.
Routing to Voicemail
Select Go to Other Destination, then set Where do you want to send callers? to Go to Voicemail Box and select which voicemail box should receive the messages. Click Save & Close.
Routing Back to the Call Menu (Repeat)
Select Go to Other Destination, then set Where do you want to send callers? to Go to a Menu and select Call Menu. This replays your menu options for callers who want to hear them again. Click Save & Close.
Once saved, your new menu option will appear in the Call Menu section with a route summary showing the destination.
