User permissions control what each person on your Talkroute account can access and do. As an account administrator, you can customize permissions for each user to limit or expand their access to features like text messaging, voicemail, call recordings, and virtual phone numbers.
How Permissions Work
Permissions in Talkroute are assigned to users, not to individual features or resources. This is an important distinction that often causes confusion.
For example, if you want to give a team member access to a specific voicemail box, you would:
- Go to the user's profile
- Edit their permissions
- Select which voicemail boxes they can access
You would not go to the voicemail box itself and add users to it. The permission settings live with the user, not the resource.
Think of it this way: each user has their own "access card" that determines what doors they can open. You program the card, not the doors.
Permission Levels
Most permission types in Talkroute offer three levels of access:
- Disabled: The user has no access. They cannot see or interact with the feature at all.
- View Only: The user can see information but cannot make changes, send messages, or delete anything.
- Full Access: The user can see, edit, and delete within that feature.
Types of Permissions
You can set permissions for the following areas of your Talkroute account:
- Text Messaging: Controls whether a user can view and send text messages for each Talkroute phone number.
- Virtual Numbers: Controls whether a user can view call history and place outgoing calls from the Talkroute apps.
- Voicemail: Controls whether a user can view and manage messages in each voicemail box.
- Call Recordings: Controls whether a user can listen to, download, and delete call recordings.
Who Can Change Permissions?
Only account administrators can view and modify user permissions. Standard users cannot change their own permissions or the permissions of others.
