How to Enable or Disable Call Announce
Call Announce is a feature that plays a short voice prompt when someone answers a forwarded call on their phone. This prompt gives the recipient the option to accept or reject the call. It is enabled by default on all forwarding phone numbers.
Call Announce only applies to forwarding phone numbers — calls answered through the Talkroute desktop or web app connect directly without a prompt.
How It Works
When Call Announce is enabled and someone answers a call on their forwarding phone, a message plays: "You have an incoming call from your Talkroute number. Press 1 to accept, or 2 to reject."
If no key is pressed, the call disconnects after several seconds and continues to the next destination in your call routing. The caller never hears this prompt — they continue to hear ringing or your selected hold music. This helps prevent callers from reaching a forwarding phone's voicemail, encountering system tones like "busy" or "disconnected," or being routed into a third-party system unexpectedly.
Disabling Call Announce allows the call to connect immediately when the forwarding phone is picked up, without requiring a button press.
When to Use Call Announce
- Keep it enabled if you want to avoid callers reaching your forwarding phone's internal voicemail or hearing system-generated audio such as a busy tone or "not in service" message.
- Disable it if you're forwarding to a reliable destination (e.g., your personal phone) and want faster call connection without needing to press a key.
If you primarily answer calls through the desktop or web app, Call Announce won't affect your experience — it only applies when calls ring to forwarding phone numbers.

What the Caller Hears
The caller will only hear a standard ringing tone or the selected hold music while the Call Announce prompt plays on the forwarding phone. They are never exposed to the actual prompt or system audio. This creates a seamless and professional experience, even if the call is being rejected behind the scenes.
Call Announce, Voicemail, and Ring Timing
If you're adjusting your call flow or want to use a personal voicemail box instead of Talkroute voicemail, it's important to understand how ring time and Call Announce work together on your forwarding phone numbers.
📱 To Use Your Forwarding Phone's Voicemail
- Disable Call Announce for the forwarding phone number.
- Set the Talkroute ring time longer than your phone's internal voicemail delay.
- Example: If your voicemail picks up after 35 seconds, set Talkroute's ring time to 40 seconds or more. The caller will be connected to your phone's internal voicemail as soon as it answers.
📥 To Use Talkroute Voicemail with Call Announce Disabled
- Disable Call Announce for the forwarding phone number.
- Set the Talkroute ring time shorter than your phone's internal voicemail delay.
- Example: If your phone's voicemail picks up after 35 seconds, set Talkroute's ring time to 30 seconds or less so the system can redirect the call first.
Note: Custom ring times per forwarding phone number are only available with Ring in Sequence. Ring All configurations ring all phones for 30 seconds and cannot be adjusted.
For more information on call routing, see How to Ring All of Your Phones at Once or How to Ring Your Phones in Sequential Order.
